Here are the steps I used to get this by 873 (make sure you turn Ironman on so the achievement can unlock).Ĭonvert to French culture (in addition for achievement requirement, it gives you access to siege man-at-arms)Īrrange a marriage with the strongest alliance possible (Jarl Sigurdr for me)ĭeclare war on the county of Napoli in Italy so you can get in range to declare war on Byzantium. You can convert to French culture instantly and since you are Asatru, you don't need claims to declare war on Catholic or Othodox rulers.Ĭount Haesteinn starts with plenty of gold, prestige/fame, and levies to get this right away.

The easiest way to do this achievement that I've found is to start as Count Haesteinn of Montaigu in 867. You do not need to be Catholic, you just can't be Orthodox or Iconoclast. Adult children will not automatically switch, even if they are at court. The achievement description is actually misleading.

But because of the effect on children, it makes sense to switch sooner rather than later. Also, you'll find a few other family members and courtiers will switch culture with you independently to get into your graces. One added benefit is that if you switch culture, all of your children that aren't yet adults will switch culture with you automatically. So, now my dynasty is half Irish and half Norse, with a spattering of Welsh. Over the years as the realm grew into an empire, we had this pattern: Switch to Irish, enact Tanistry, elect a Norse, repeat.

Of course, one of my Norse family members became the next ruler, switching us immediately back to EG. Since my realm was Tribal, I switched culture to Irish to enact Tanistry and get rid of Elective Gavelkind. In my Ivar the Boneless game, I started as the Norse Viking, but settled in Ireland. Yeah, newly spawned courtiers/baron-level folks will have the culture of their liege, so if you want more Bulgarians, say, you'll want to be Bulgarian yourself.īut yes, I was running into this issue myself a lot.
